BREAKFAST is the most important meal of the day, and skipping it can lead to overeating, indigestion, and bloating. Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar says breakfast is key to a good start to the day. If you often wake up with a feeling of heaviness in your stomach, the solution may lie in your morning beverage of choice.
Dr. Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist with experience at universities like AIIMS, Harvard and Stanford, recommends four simple drinks that can help maintain gut health and provide more energy throughout the day, writes the Times of India.
1. Green tea
Green tea is rich in antioxidants and compounds called catechins, which have a beneficial effect on digestion and reduce bloating.
2. Matcha
Matcha is a special type of powdered green tea, with three times more antioxidants than regular green tea. Due to its concentrated nature, it is particularly beneficial for digestion.
3. Black tea
Black tea contains polyphenols and antioxidants that have a beneficial effect on the digestive system and intestinal flora.
4. Mint tea
This tea is especially recommended for people who struggle with bloating or have symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.
Ending advice
Avoid adding regular milk and sugar to these drinks, as they can further increase bloating. If you prefer, use lactose-free milk or plant-based alternatives like almond or oat milk. Instead of sugar, Dr. Sethi recommends natural sweeteners like stevia or monk fruit, but without added erythritol.
